The Belize Embassy in Washington DC commemorated its Independence Day on Saturday, September 23, 2023, with a vibrant celebration. Despite the less-than-ideal weather, the event kicked off with a warm and welcoming address delivered by Ms. Cinnamon Bottaro, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Belize and H.E. Lynn Young, Ambassador of Belize to the United States of America and Permanent Representative of the Organization of American States.

As guests reveled in the festivities, they savored the flavors of Belikin Beer and Travelers Rum, accompanied by the local delicacies of tacos and rice and beans. The crowd was entertained throughout the evening by the dynamic DJ Selectaq45 and the voice of the captivating Ms. Mesha Steele. The Garifuna drummers gave quite a performance as well.

Portions of the income from local items on sale were donated to Build Belize Inc, a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose purpose is to support the Belizean diaspora and Belizeans living at home through education, health, and service. Raffles and other giveaways were provided.

Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Honorable Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness; Dr. Julio Sabido, CEO of the Ministry of Health and Wellness; Mr. Nestor Mendez, Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States and former Ambassador of Belize to the United States; and the Ambassador for Diaspora Relations, Sandhya Murphy, and numerous other esteemed dignitaries.
