The Ministry of Tourism & Diaspora Relations, in collaboration with the Belize High Commission, London, hosted a gathering of the diaspora in London on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Victory Services Club. The event brought together over 200 Belizeans living in London and surrounding areas. The event aimed to facilitate interaction and information sharing. It also created a networking opportunity for attendees while showcasing the ministry’s commitment to actively engage with the diaspora.
The Belize delegation included Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism & Diaspora Relations; Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness; Hon. Oscar Mira, Minister of State in the Ministry of National Defence & Border Security; Ambassador Stuart Leslie, Cabinet Secretary and Chief of Staff; Ms. Nicole Solano, CEO in the Ministry of Tourism & Diaspora Relations; H. E. Mrs. Therese Rath, Belize High Commissioner and Mrs. Sandhya Murphy, Ambassador for Diaspora Relations.
During the event, Mr. Francis Reneau received special recognition as the visiting team took the opportunity to honor this musical icon. Mr. Reneau, who studied in the UK, became a renowned concert pianist and composer, and is regarded as one of the nation's greatest treasures. Mr. Reneau is an avid supporter of the arts in Belize.
Mr. Alexander Evans performed, including a beautiful rendition of the national anthem on the steel pan. The Warasa Garifuna Drummers also provided lively entertainment. In addition, a photo exhibition displayed scenes and people of Belize by Tony Rath Photography.
The MTDR will continue working diligently to strengthen the bond with the diaspora community in London and across the world. These efforts emphasize the ministry’s commitment to supporting diaspora initiatives, addressing their concerns, and assisting them in actively contributing to the sustainable development of Belize.
